Aside from his obvious charm and contagious enthusiasm for wristwatches, Kobold has stories to tell like no other person I have ever met. Let me give you a smattering that is very apropos of the day’s glum news. Kobold, a German by birth, has lived in the United States since he enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University in 1998 and founded his watch company at the age of 19. What began as a side business to fight the tedium of studies (he graduated one year early) became an all-consuming passion – and the first fully Internet-based watch brand. Kobold’s workshop, where high-quality mechanical watches conceived to be tough now incorporate more and more American components, is located just outside Pittsburgh, fairly deep in Amish country. And like his new neighbors, he can sometimes be oblivious to various elements of modern society.]]></content:encoded>
